2 men arrested in string of robberies, burglaries in the DC area
WASHINGTON - D.C. Police have arrested two men who were wanted for a string of burglaries and robberies in the area.
One of the men is twenty-eight-year-old Melvin Turner, he is responsible for breaking into a yoga studio in Ivy City, and 17 other businesses across the city. Police say he committed these crimes after he was ordered to wear an ankle bracelet as a result of another crime he committed before the rash of robberies.
On Thursday, July 14 police say Donathan Taylor was arrested on 14 counts of armed robbery. Taylor terrorized and robbed people at night armed with a weapon taking anything he could gain from them, police say. He too was supposed to be wearing a GPS ankle bracelet but officials said he removed it. Chief Lanier was asked why judges are releasing individuals who then go out and commit additional crimes and she explained that the judges are just following guidelines.
These crimes happened all across the district, Lanier said. She also explained that this is a good example of a small number of people committing a large number of crimes. She says typically when these arrests are made, the crime issues are reduced.
