2 DC juvenile curfew zones in effect through Saturday

WASHINGTON - D.C. police have announced two Juvenile Curfew Zones in effect from 8 p.m. to midnight on Friday, Aug. 21, through Saturday, Aug. 22, in the Brightwood/Emery Heights Zone and the Banneker Rec Center/U Street Zone.
Under the order, anyone under 18 is prohibited from gathering in groups of nine or more in public spaces or on the premises of any establishment unless participating in exempted activities.
2 DC juvenile curfew zones in effect through Saturday (DC Police)
A separate citywide curfew for juveniles begins nightly at 11 p.m. and lasts until 6 a.m.
The Brightwood/Emery Heights Zone is bordered by Quackenbos Street to the north, 8th Street to the east, Longfellow Street to the south and 13th Street to the west.
The Banneker Rec Center/U Street Zone is bordered by Euclid Street to the north, Georgia Avenue and 7th Street to the east, 11th Street and V Street to the west, and T Street to the south.

- To the South: Longfellow Street, NW from 8th Street, NW to 13th Street, NW
- To the West: 13th Street, NW from Quackenbos Street, NW to Longfellow Street, NW

The perimeter of the Banneker/U Street Youth Curfew Zone is as follows:

- To the East: Georgia Avenue, NW, continuing on 7th Street, NW, from Euclid Street, NW, to T Street, NW
- To the West: 11th Street, NW, from Euclid Street, to V Street, NW, then V Street, NW, to 15th Street, NW
- To the South: T Street, NW, from 7th Street, NW, to 15th Street, NW

What activities are exempted from the curfew?
Individuals under the age of 18 are exempt from the youth curfew if they are:
- Accompanying a parent or guardian.
- Completing an errand at the direction of a parent or guardian, without detour or stop.
- Riding in a motor vehicle involved in interstate travel.
- Working or returning home from a job, without detour or stop.
- Involved in an emergency.
- Standing on a sidewalk that joins their residence or the residence of a next-door neighbor, if the neighbor did not complain to police.
- Attending an official school, religious, or other recreational activity sponsored by the District of Columbia, a civic organization, or other similar group that takes responsibility for the juvenile. (This includes traveling to and from the activity.)
- Exercising their First Amendment rights protected by the US Constitution, including the free exercise of speech, religion, and right of assembly
