2 charged in seizure of assault rifles

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Frederick city police have charged two Mount Airy men with possessing or selling illegal assault rifles.

Police said Monday they seized two AR-15 rifles made from legally purchased parts. The guns lacked serial numbers, making them untraceable.

Police say an undercover officer bought those guns from 24-year-old Daniel Schumaker Jr.

Schumaker's lawyer didn't immediately return a call from The Associated Press.

Police say an AK-47 assault rifle with a scratched-out serial number was seized at the home of the other defendant, identified in court records as 32-year-old Christopher Stoltzfoos. Stoltzfoos has no attorney listed, and no home telephone listing.

Investigators also seized other guns, a pound of marijuana and $8,100 in cash.

This story has been corrected to show that only Schumaker is accused of selling AR-15s.
