16-year-old charged in Northwest DC homicide

A 16-year-old has been charged in a 2024 shooting that left an 18-year-old man dead, D.C. police say.

The backstory:

The incident took place on Oct. 25, 2024. Police responded to the 3700 block of Georgia Avenue around 5:45 p.m. after hearing gunshots. 

An officer responded to the 800 block of Quincy Street, NW, and located an adult male who had been shot. He was unconscious and was not breathing. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Police say the victim,18-year-old Hazma Jamil Mubah-Wrotten, of Clarksburg, Md., was pronounced dead at the hospital three days later on Oct. 28.\

What we know:

On Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, authorities arrested a 16-year-old boy— a resident of Northwest, DC — in Maryland.

On Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025, the teen went through the extradition process and was returned to Washington, D.C. He was taken to the Juvenile Processing Center where he was charged with second degree murder while armed.

What we don't know:

His first court date is not yet known.
