10,000 gallons of raw sewage estimated to have leaked into Prince George's neighborhood

Over 10,000 gallons of raw sewage is estimated to have leaked into a Prince George's County neighborhood.

The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission said a leak on a 14-inch sewer main located near 139 N. Huron Drive in Oxon Hill caused the overflow which was discovered Sunday night.

Crews are working to bypass the damaged section of pipe but it could take several days for the repairs to be made.

Officials say most of the overflow is being contained, however, some of the wastewater is reaching Oxon Run. The affected area has been taped off and warning signs have been posted.
