1 dead in fiery crash involving tractor trailer on Interstate 70 in Frederick County

A fiery crash on eastbound Interstate 70 in Frederick County involving a tractor trailer left one person dead and snarled traffic in both directions for several hours Thursday morning.

NEW MARKET, MD. - A fiery crash on eastbound Interstate 70 in Frederick County involving a tractor trailer left one person dead and snarled traffic in both directions for several hours Thursday morning.

The crash was reported around 3 a.m. in the New Market area.

Authorities say the crash involved a passenger vehicle and the tractor trailer. The passenger vehicle was engulfed in flames when officers arrived. One person was found dead inside. The driver of the tractor trailer was transported by ground to a nearby hospital.

Interstate 70 was shut down in both directions with traffic being diverted around the crash scene.

The crash is still under investigation.
