1 dead, 1 injured in early morning shooting in Northwest DC

Police say one person is dead and another is hospitalized after both were shot early Monday morning in D.C.'s Shaw neighborhood.

Officers say the shooting happened in the Northwest in the 1900 block of 9th Street around 1:18 a.m.

Investigators say one person died at the scene. The other person was transported and is in stable condition.

FOX 5's Melanie Alnwick reports that police D.C. Police chased a vehicle from near the shooting location into Prince Geroge's County. Several people were taken into custody and are being questioned, Alnwick says. She also reports that there has been a 35 percent increase in homicides in the District this year.

Numerous evidence markers could be seen in the street where the shooting took place. The 1900 block of 9th Street reopened to traffic after several hours.

Investigators have not identified the victims in the shooting, Officers have not identified any suspects or motives at this time.

Elsewhere in the District, police say one person was shot just after midnight in the 3900 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in the Southeast. That person's condition is unknown.
