Governor Pritzker defends his decision to cancel 'Confederate' band show
Country rock band Confederate Railroad has been barred from performing at an Illinois state fair because of its use of the Confederate flag, setting off a firestorm by southern Illinois fans who believe they're under Chicago liberals' thumb of political correctness.
The band was scheduled to appear Aug. 27 at the DuQuoin State Fair, but Gov. J.B. Pritzker's administration canceled the appearance last week.
"This administration's guiding principle is that the state of Illinois will not use state resources to promote symbols of racism," Pritzker spokeswoman Emily Bittner said. "Symbols of hate cannot and will not represent the values of the Land of Lincoln."Read the full article
Walmart raises minimum age to buy tobacco to 21
NEW YORK (AP) - Walmart said Wednesday that it will raise the minimum age for tobacco products and e-cigarettes to 21 in an effort to combat tobacco sales to minors.
The world's largest retailer says the new rules will take effect July 1, and will also include its Sam's Club warehouse stores.
Previously, its minimum purchase age was 18, aside from a number of states where the law required a minimum purchase age of 21.Read the full article

Angie Goff joins FOX 5 DC
WASHINGTON (FOX 5 DC) – Angie Goff has joined FOX 5 DC, announced station Vice President and News Director, Paul McGonagle. Effective July 8th, she will co-anchor the “5 at 4 p.m.” weekday newscast with Blake McCoy and serve as a co-host of “Like It Or Not,” weeknights at 7 p.m. In addition, she will contribute to various station newscasts and projects on all platforms.
In making the announcement, McGonagle stated, “Angie is authentic and embodies everything this station strives to deliver to viewers. We are confident that having this unrelenting and versatile journalist working for us will enhance our evening programming and social media presence."
Most recently, Goff served as a weekend morning anchor and reporter for WRC NBC Washington DC, where she also contributed to NBC’s “TODAY” and filled in as a host for “Early TODAY” and MSNBC. Prior to that, Goff was a multi-media journalist at WUSA in Washington. Previously, she served as an investigative reporter and anchor for WIS-TV in Columbia, South Carolina. Before that, Goff worked as a morning anchor and reporter for KMEG-TV in Sioux City, Iowa. She is the host of the recently launched weekly podcast, “The Oh My Goff Show.”Read the full article
