A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's counties in Maryland until 5:30 p.m.
4:27 p.m.
Local authorities are reporting storm damage that is impacting traffic around the area. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue is already reporting several incidents involving downed tree and lightning strikes.
Police in Arlington and Fauquier counties in Virginia are reporting traffic light outages and roads blocked by trees.
4:12 p.m.
Severe weather is already impacting the D.C. region as a Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Anne Arundel, Howard, Prince George's counties in Maryland along with Baltimore City until 4:45 p.m.
A hot and muggy morning will give way to the possibility of severe thunderstorms later in the afternoon and evening.
FOX 5's Gary McGrady and Mike Thomas say everyone in the region is under an enhanced risk for severe weather at this point in the day. The risk of flash flooding and strong winds also remains high at this time.
A jet stream pushing into the area from the west will bring the storms our way. Sever weather could start to develop around 1:30 p.m. with the heaviest passing over the Interstate 95 corridor between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
By tomorrow we dry out with highs around 88 degrees. Summer begins on Wednesday with warmer temperatures in store.
