Washington Capitals' Stanley Cup runneth over -- with puppies in their 2019 canine calendar

It's a little more than a month until 2019 and the new year is already looking pretty adorable -- with the release of the Washington Capitals' 2019 Calendar, and no we're not talking about the players!

The calendar, which is now available, features photos of Caps players posing with their own dogs, as well as pups up for adoption from Homeward Trails and the Stanley Cup. One hundred percent of proceeds from calendar sales with benefit Homeward Trails Animal Rescue.

In one photo, Dmitry Orlov poses with Nikita, a Chihuahua/beagle mix from Homeward Trails Animal Rescue, Alex Ovechkin with his black Lab Blake, and Evgeny Kuznetsov with the Stanley Cup. In another, Braden Holtby holds Hamilton, a Border Collie/shepherd mix from Homeward Trails Animal Rescue.

The Capitals have raised nearly $250,000 for Homeward Trails through sales of the Canine Calendar since 2014.

Homeward Trails is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that provides pet adoption in Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland. They work to find fur-ever homes for dogs and cats from high-kill shelters or whose owners can no longer care for them. The organization facilitates adoptions from area shelters and support a large network of foster care providers.

The 2019 Caps Canine Calendars are available for $20 at the team store and at merchandise stands throughout Capital One Arena, online and at the team store at MedStar Capitals Iceplex.

The Caps say all photography and photo retouching for the calendar was generously provided by Virgil Ocampo Photography.
