Report: Nationals expected to hire Bud Black as new manager

The Washington Nationals are expected to hire Bud Black as their new manager, according to the Washington Post.

Black will replace Matt Williams, who was fired by Washington a day after the 2015 regular season ended.

The 58-year-old managed the San Diego Padres before being fired midway this past season. He compiled a 649-713 record in just under nine seasons with the Padres, but never led them to the playoffs during his stint there. Black was the National League Manager of the Year in 2010.

Prior to becoming the Padres' manager, Black was the pitching coach for Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for seven seasons and he also pitched in the Major Leagues from 1981 to 1995 for six different teams.
