Kevin Durant Day festival canceled; parade still scheduled as planned

SEAT PLEASANT, Md. - A festival scheduled to celebrate NBA star and Prince George's County native Kevin Durant has been canceled but a parade in his honor will still go on as planned.

Monica Biscoe, the vice president of marketing and communications for the town of Seat Pleasant, Maryland, says that a scheduling conflict resulted in the cancelation of this Thursday's Kevin Durant Day Festival.

Biscoe said that while the festival portion of the day has been canceled, Durant will still participate in the parade portion.

The parade is scheduled to begin at the Judith P. Hoyer Montessori School located at 929 Hill Road in Landover. The parade is expected to travel down Seat Pleasant Drive to Addison Road and last about an hour.

28-year-old Durant grew up in Seat Pleasant and was selected second overall in the 2007 NBA draft.

A year ago, he was considered the NBA's most coveted free agent. Locals had hoped he would sign with the hometown Washington Wizards. Instead, Durant joined Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in five games in the NBA Finals and Durant claimed the league's MVP award.
