Jets interview Maryland's Mike Locksley for head coach position
The New York Jets announced they have interviewed University of Maryland head coach Mike Locksley for their vacant head coaching role.
Locksley, who has spent the past six seasons leading the Terrapins, has amassed a 32-36 record since taking the reins in 2019. Despite a challenging 4-8 season in 2024, Locksley guided Maryland to three consecutive winning seasons from 2021 to 2023, including bowl victories in the Pinstripe Bowl, Duke’s Mayo Bowl, and Music City Bowl.

His 2022 and 2023 campaigns saw the Terps achieve 8-5 records, the program’s first back-to-back eight-win seasons since 2002-03.
The Washington, D.C. native brings over three decades of coaching experience, including a standout stint at the University of Alabama. As the Crimson Tide’s offensive coordinator in 2018, Locksley’s unit averaged 45.6 points and 522 yards per game, setting school records for points scored (684) and total offense (7,830 yards). He earned the prestigious Broyles Award that same year, honoring the nation’s top assistant coach.
Locksley’s coaching journey began at Towson University in 1992, where he played safety. His resume includes roles at Navy, Pacific, Army, Florida, Illinois, and New Mexico, where he served as head coach from 2009-11.
He has deep ties to Maryland, having served as the Terrapins’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2012-15 and as interim head coach for six games in 2015.
Chairman Woody Johnson is leading the Jets’ head coaching search, which is supported by The 33rd Team, a football think tank that assists in identifying and vetting candidates.
The Jets are also conducting a simultaneous search for a general manager.
