Wounded gunman shoots through doors of Reston Hospital Center when he finds entrances locked

Police say a man fired a shot through the doors of a Fairfax County hospital Wednesday morning after he was unable to enter the locked entrances and receive treatment for a gunshot would.

The incident happened at the Reston Hospital Center around 1:30 a.m.

Investigators say a 53-year-old Loudoun County man arrived to the hospital after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound to upper body.

When locked doors prevented him from entering, officers say he fired a round from a weapon in to the building through the doors.

Medical personnel responded and began treating the man for his injuries, however, while he was being treated, he fired his weapon again.

Staff members were able to get the man to release his weapon. The man has since been transferred to a different hospital.

No one inside of the hospital was injured.

It is unclear what charges, if any, the man will face.
