Woman found dead in Prince George's County house fire, officials say

A woman has died in a fire in Prince George's County early Saturday morning, according to fire officials.

Investigators say they were called to a home in the 1400 block of Ray Road in Chillum after a neighbor called reporting smoke at around 7:45 a.m.

Crews say they found fire coming from the two-story, split level, single family home. Investigators say they were able to quickly extinguish the fire, but found the woman inside had already passed.

The house did have a working smoke alarm, officials said, but it was in the lower level of the home and not near where the fire and woman were located in the living room on the main level.

According to Prince George's County fire, the woman, who was in her 70s is believed to be the only one who lived there.

Prince George's County fire say the damage is estimated at $50,000. They say the cause of the fire is under investigation, but nothing suspicious has been found.
