Washington Monument reopens after repairs

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The National Park Service says the Washington Monument is reopening after being closed for several days for repairs to an elevator control box.

The Park Service says in an email that the monument is re-opening at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The Park Service said Friday that the control box was inadvertently damage by a contractor working in the structure on an unrelated issue.

The monument is open daily. Tickets are free but have a service fee if ordered online.
