Virginia tops list of ‘Most Patriotic States'

Virginia topped the list of "2017's Most Patriotic States in America," according to a study conducted by WalletHub.

WalletHub said it factored a state's military and civic engagement to determine its patriotic ranking, taking into consideration 13 key indicators including the average number of military enlistees, military veterans, the percentage of the adult population who voted, the number of hours volunteered and trial and grand-jury participation.

Virginia topped the list after ranking fifth in military engagement and 10th in civic engagement.

Alaska, Wyoming, South Carolina and Colorado rounded out the top five and Maryland came in at No. 17.
