Violent weekend leaves 3 dead in the District
WASHINGTON - Homicide numbers continue to climb in the District after a violent weekend that left three people dead.
The most recent killing was reported around 8:30 p.m. Sunday on the 1300 block of Good Hope Road where a man was stabbed to death. Police say a passerby alerted officers after finding a man with stab wounds in a parking lot. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital but later died.
On Monday, police identified the victim as 30-year-old Jean-Claude Jackson.
Police are also investigating two deadly shootings that happened on Saturday. Officers say 26-year-old Marquis Jones was shot and killed around 12:03 a.m. in the 2000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in the Southeast.
At around 8:45 p.m. Saturday, police say 21-year-old Avery Anderson was shot dead in the 4600 block of Benning Road in the Southeast.
FOX 5's Bob Barnard reports that 123 total homicides have been reported so far in 2018 in the District compared with 116 in all of 2017. Police do not believe any of this weekend's homicides are related.
