VIDEO: Fairfax Co. fire crews rescued dog who fell through ice on Reston lake

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department crews braved icy waters on Wednesday morning to rescue a dog that had fallen through thin ice.

The 75-pound dog named Angel fell through the ice on Lake Thoreau in Reston just before 9 a.m. Rescuers arrived on scene to find the dog struggling to get out of the frigid water, as her owner watched from the shore.

Fire crews quickly donned ice commander suits and went in after Angel. Video posted on the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department's Facebook page shows rescuers approaching the dog as she barked and cried. At times, it's hard to watch-- but it does have a very happy ending.

Her owner is heard telling them the dog is friendly-- just afraid of people. A collective "awwww" is heard when rescuers were finally able to put their arms around Angel and start bringing her to safety.

Angel was out of the water within less than 10 minutes from the time fire crews got the call that she was in danger. She was evaluated by medics on the scene. She was very cold, but fortunately she wasn't hurt.
