Verizon launches free 'Call Filter' service to block spam callers

Verizon is launching a free service to help customers block those annoying spam calls.

The carrier has unveiled its free version of the 'Call Filter' service-- which used to be paid-only-- available to both Android and IOS users. Customers still have the option to pay $2.99 a month for extra features but to help combat spam and robocalls, Verizon is offering three of Call Filter's features for free: spam detection, spam filter and ability to report numbers.

Here's how it works, when it's activated, Verizon says the filter will let customers get alerts when it's likely the call is spam.

The customer can also report unsolicited numbers and the service allows robocalls to be automatically blocked.

According to Verizon, consumers received approximately 2.4 million robocalls per month in 2016. Yikes!
