Upper Marlboro man charged with robbery after Patuxent Elementary School incident
UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (FOX 5 DC) - An Upper Marlboro man is charged with robbery after an incident at Patuxent Elementary school that prompted the school to go on lockdown, and drew a large police presence.
Prince George's County police say 35-year-old Ricard Campbell of Wardlow Road entered the school and made threatening statements to a staff member. He also robbed a staff member, taking their jewelry, police say.
Police initially indicated they were responding to the school after a report of shots being fired - they later learned that a staff member mistook a barbecue lighter for a gun.
An aftercare program was in session at the school during the incident, and six children and several adults had to be escorted from the building.
