Counter-protest held in Northwest DC as Donald Trump is sworn into office
WASHINGTON -
A rally in opposition to President Donald Trump, who was sworn into office Monday, was held at Dupont Circle.
Several hundred people were gathered in Dupont by Monday afternoon. The rally started in Meridian Hill at Malcom X Park around 11 a.m. and protesters made their way over to Dupont Circle throughout the day.
The rally was made up of a number of different groups that came together throughout the day.
"A lot of people were out here, hundreds of people with multiple different organizations that, you know, are just trying to get people to come together," one attendee named Kay told FOX 5. "A lot of people are feeling a lot fear today and feeling kind of just like they want to give up. and so a lot of us were out here today to show people that there's other organizations that are doing things that are can get involved, and they're not alone in how they feel."
Palestinian flags and D.C. statehood flags were seen waving around — some groups calling for an end to the violence in Gaza and others pushing for a cause closer to home, calling for statehood for D.C.
One group of Philippinos also joined the march and stopped in front of the Philippino embassy.
There was also a group from Maryland that told FOX 5 they're concerned about immigrant rights.
More protests are possible throughout the day. Check back with FOX 5 for updates.
