Transformer fire explosion fills Arlington sky with black smoke near popular shopping area
ARLINGTON, Va. - Emergency crews responded to a popular Arlington shopping area after a transformer explosion filled the sky with fire and thick, black smoke.
The explosion happened inside of a building's basement along the 2800 block of Clarendon Boulevard around 9 a.m.
Officials have not reported any injuries at this time.
Crews from a nearby airport assisted local fire personnel.
Businesses and roads in the area were closed while crews worked to put out the fire.
