Ticketing begins for Capital Beltway work zone speed cameras

If you drive with a lead foot -- be careful on the Capital Beltway!

The grace period for work zone speed cameras in the Suitland area has ended.

Beginning on Monday, August 7, speed cameras in the work zone near the Capital Beltway bridge over Suitland Road will issue $40 tickets to drivers exceeding the posted speed limit. The cameras are expected to be in place along both the inner and outer loops.

FOX 5's Bob Barnard says that tickets will be issued for motorists driving at leaset 12 miles over the posted 55 mile per hour speed limit.

The work zone project is expected to last three years.

AAA Mid Atlantic says over the past two years, at least twelve people have lost their lives in work zone crashes on Maryland roadways.
