Teen injured in Northwest DC shooting outside recreation center
A teen was injured in a shooting outside of a Northwest D.C. recreation center.
WASHINGTON - A teen boy was injured in a Northwest D.C. shooting Friday evening, police said.
What we know:
Officers responded to the 1300 block of 7th Street, Northwest, around 7:13 p.m. for the reported shooting. The incident occurred outside the Kennedy Recreation Center.
Once on scene, police found a teen boy suffering from a gunshot wound.
FOX 5's Sydney Persing was blocks away covering another story when the shooting occurred. The teen was seen on the ground with several officers surrounding him and tending to him as others blocked off the area with crime scene tape.
The teen was then moved to an ambulance where several EMTs cared for him before taking him to a hospital.
Witnesses said the teen seemed scared and shocked, but alert. Another said he heard about three gunshots.
Dozens of Metropolitan Police Department officers were on the scene, along with FBI, DEA, US Marshals, and National Guard members.
Police did not say if the shooting was random or targeted.
The Kennedy Rec Center normally stays open until 8 p.m. on Fridays.
