Montgomery County death investigation
The backstory:
According to the department, the case unfolded around 3:16 a.m. when a Montgomery County police officer, on routine patrol, spotted a white BMW stopped in the middle of the intersection at Shady Grove Road and Research Boulevard.
Upon investigation, officers discovered a man dead inside the car and found bullet holes on the vehicle's exterior.
Hours later, at approximately 7:40 a.m., Rockville City police responded to a separate scene at 2 Research Court after receiving a report of a dead person in a parking lot. Officers arrived to find a woman with apparent gunshot wounds, along with shell casings nearby.
Detectives determined that the two deaths were connected and identified 25-year-old Kaloyan Dimov Stoev as the suspect in both homicides. Stoev, whose address is currently unknown, was located and taken into custody in Rockville around noon, police said.
What we know:
According to Montgomery County state attorney John McCarthy, Stoev admitted to his involvement in the double homicide that was reportedly the aftermath of a botched marijuana deal. Court documents indicate two ounces of marijuana is what was apparently at the center of the deadly conflict.
Stoev is accused of fatally shooting 26-year-old Marcell Hebron and 27-year-old Leilani Marroquin, both from Rockville, Maryland. Hebron was found deceased in his vehicle in the middle of Shady Grove Road. Marroquin was found shot multiple times about 100 yards from Hebron at a nearby motel. Employees confirmed Stoev had checked into the motel.
FOX 5 has learned at one point Stoev sat on top of Hebron after fatally shooting him and attempted to drive his car to get away before the car malfunctioned.
This is a developing story that will be updated.
