Strong winds, heavy rain bring power outages and downed trees

Strong winds and heavy rain have left thousands without power Monday morning as a powerful nor'easter moved through the region.

The storm materialized overnight and brought wind gusts of around 40 miles per hour into the area. A Wind Advisory is in place until 10 a.m.

Some snow is falling in western Maryland and in West Virginia. In our area, the storm is bringing heavy rain. Nearly an inch of rain has fallen in the last 24 hours.

Utility and road crews are responding to downed power lines across the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region.

Drivers can expect a messy morning commute as gusty winds and rain stay with us into the afternoon.
