Southeast man suspected in Mount Olivet Road carjacking identified

D.C. police have identified a suspect who is in custody in connection with a Friday night carjacking on Mount Olivet Road.

They are still looking for a second suspect wanted in the incident.

Police have charged 27-year-old Carlton Johnson of Southeast with armed carjacking.

They have not named the second suspect.

Police say the pair approached a victim's vehicle in the 1000 block of Mount Olivet Road, Northeast on Friday night around 10:09 p.m.

One of the suspects pulled out a gun and demanded that the victim exit her vehicle.

When she cooperated, the suspects entered her vehicle and drove away.

Police spotted the vehicle parked in the 1200 block of Mount Olivet Road shortly after it was stolen, but when they approached, the suspects reportedly sped away, striking one of the officers.

They located the discarded vehicle in the 1700 block of Benning Road Northeast and arrested Johnson.
