Shelter in place lifted near University of Maryland after off-campus robbery

Police have given an all-clear and lifted a shelter-in-place order in an area at the University of Maryland after officers searched for suspects involved in an off-campus robbery.

The robbery was reported just before 1 p.m. Thursday at a home in the 8800 block of 36th Place in College Park.

Prince George's County police say two suspects forced their way into a home, assaulted two victims inside and stole valuables. They fled the area afterwards.

One of the victims in the home was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Because one of the suspects was armed with a gun, this led to the shelter in place at the university as police searched for the suspects. Their search included a wooded area behind the Chesapeake Building on campus. Police dispatched K-9 units, patrol officers and its helicopter during the search.

Both suspects have been taken into custody, police say.

According to police, this robbery appears to be targeted and was not random.

University of Maryland police say officers will continue to maintain a presence on campus.
