Rifle, pistol stolen from FBI vehicle in DC
WASHINGTON - Two service weapons were stolen from an FBI vehicle on Sunday morning in Northeast, D.C., according to the FBI.
According to the police report, the suspect or suspects smashed a rear passenger window of a parked Ford Expedition in the 800 block of 7th Street and stole a Colt AR-15 rifle and a Glock 22 pistol. It happened Sunday between 6:45 a.m. and 7:49 a.m.
The weapons were in a secure lockbox in the vehicle. FBI and D.C. police are investigating the crime.
It is unclear if the FBI employee is on administrative leave because of the incident. The FBI would not comment on that because it is an internal personnel matter.
It is also unclear if leaving the weapons inside a lockbox in an unattended car is standard operating procedure and why the FBI did not notify the public right away. They said they were unable to provide any more information about the case since it is an ongoing investigation.
