Report: Wint took cab from NYC to Maryland

The man suspected of killing four people after holding them captive inside their northwest Washington mansion apparently evaded capture by fleeing to New York City - then heading back to Maryland in a taxi.

The New York Daily News is reporting that the suspect, 34-year-old Daron Wint, headed to Brooklyn after the murders.

He escaped the early stages of the manhunt by taking a taxi from New York back to Maryland.

According to the report, he paid $1000 in stolen cash for the trip.

That included the cost of tolls and a hefty tip to the cab driver.

Over the weekend, D.C. police released four people who were detained at the same time as Wint.

Police did not identify the four people or say how long they were detained.

Wint is the only person who's been charged in the slayings of 46-year-old Savvas Savopoulos; his wife, 47-year-old Amy Savopoulos; their 10-year-old son, Philip Savopoulos; and a housekeeper, Veralicia Figueroa.

Police have said in charging documents that they believe Wint had help from others holding the Savopouloses captive inside their northwest Washington mansion for at least 18 hours. But no other suspects have been identified.

Wint was arrested Thursday night in Washington, a week after the slayings.

He had previously worked for Savvas Savopoulos' company.
