Prince George's County SWAT swarms New Carrollton apartment after gunfire
NEW CARROLLTON, Md. - SWAT officers with the Prince George's County Police Department swarmed an apartment complex in New Carrollton after officials said a suspect opened fire from a balcony Friday evening.
New Carrollton police were first to respond to the shots fire call at the building in the 7600 block of Fontainebleau Drive after witnesses reported an individual shooting a gun from a balcony.
When New Carrollton officers arrived at the scene they reported hearing multiple shots. New Carrollton officers took cover and Prince George's County police quickly arrived at the scene and also took cover.
Officers set up a perimeter around the building and Riverdale Road was shut down in the area as a safety precaution.
Officials said three people who came out of the building were taken into custody, but it remained unclear if they came out of the unit were the gunfire was reported.
The SWAT team for Prince George's County arrived at the scene and eventually made entry into the unit. Police said the unit was cleared and a gun was recovered.
Officials said a woman suffered scrapes to her knees while taking cover after she heard the gunshots.
No other details were immediately available.
