Prince George's County students commemorate resource officer killed in crash with drawing

Students at William Wirt Middle School in Prince George's County are commemorating their School Resource Officer, Davon McKenzie, who was killed last week in a motorcycle crash.

A student at the school sketched a portrait of McKenzie, and the school Tweeted it on Friday, accompanied with words reflecting their respect and veneration for him.

As we @WWMSJaguars are mourning the loss of our "Ray of Sunshine", SRO Officer Davon McKenzie! One of our amazing & talented scholars drew this replica picture of him in his honor! #RIPOfficerMcKenzie #GoneToSoon #AlwaysInOurHearts #WWMSstrong #ForeverAJaguar @PGPDNews

McKenzie was off duty last Tuesday when his motorcycle was caught up in a crash involving multiple vehicles on I-485. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

McKenzie was assigned to the Bureau of Patrol and joined the Prince George's County Police Department in March of 2017. He was 24 years old.
