Police: Woman struck and killed by unattended SUV in grocery store parking lot

Police say a 74-year-old woman has died after she was struck and killed by an unattended car in a grocery store parking lot in Prince George's County.

Investigators say Mary Ankeney of Quicksilver Court in Bowie died at the hospital, after she was struck and killed by an SUV in a Lanham.

Prince George's County police say on Saturday, officers were called to the 10500 block of Greenbelt Road for a crash with a pedestrian and an SUV at around 2 p.m.

Police say they found Akeney unresponsive. She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

According to authorities, they found the 74-year-old woman had just left the store and was pushing her cart toward the parking lot, when she was struck by the SUV. Detectives say they believe the driver of the SUV opened the door and got out, but it appears the SUV was not put in park, and so it went forward and struck the woman.

Police say the driver of the SUV stayed on the scene and contacted police.
