Police: Woman kidnapped, robbed in Northwest DC neighborhood

D.C. police are investigating the kidnapping of a woman who was forced into a van, assaulted, robbed and then thrown out of the vehicle in a Woodley Park neighborhood.

The victim told police she was walking in the 1600 block of Monroe Street in Northwest D.C. on Sunday at around 3:30 a.m. when a man grabbed her around the shoulders and forced her into a white work van with two other suspects.

According to police, the victim said the men assaulted her and they stole several personal items before the ordeal finally ended in Woodley Park where the woman was thrown out of the van.

Police said the victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The suspects are described as black males in their late 30s. The vehicle's make, model and registration are unknown, police said.

This incident has raised a lot of alarm for residents who live on Monroe Street where this initially started. Many of them said they have not felt nearly as safe in their own neighborhood as they used to.

"There was a couple of incidents that have happened on the adjoining blocks in the last few months, so it makes you think you might want to get a security camera," said one resident.

"Since Thanksgiving, there have been probably three instances," said another neighborhood resident. "One of our neighbors actually called us. I was out of town and she called and left a message just alerting us."

D.C. police said they would like to hear from anyone with any information about this kidnapping.
