Police seize 8 dead cats, 51 sick from Glen Burnie home

GLEN BURNIE, Md. - Anne Arundel County Animal Control rescued 59 cats from a rental property in Glen Burnie, Anne Arundel County police said.

A landlord expressed concerns to police about the well-being of a tenant and the animals located in the home on Westphalia Court.

Police say they went to the residence and witnessed "deplorable" conditions inside. The tenant wouldn't allow officials into the home, forcing police to obtain a Search and Seizure Warrant and return the following day.

Animal control officers removed 51 live cats from the home and eight dead ones.

A veterinarian with animal control found most, if not all, of the cats suffering from a variety of ailments, including upper respiratory infections, malnutrition and dehydration.

The animals are not currently available for adoption and are under protective custody of Anne Arundel County.

An investigation into the case continues, police said.
