Police: Officers rescue occupants of burning car after driver refused to stop

Police trying to pull over a vehicle in Montgomery County turned into first-responders after the car lost control and burst into flames.

The incident happened Wednesday around 11:30 p.m. when officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Layhill Road is Aspen Hill.

Officers say the driver refused to stop and drove onto Emory Lane in the Olney area where he lost control and drove off of the road. The vehicle, with the driver and two passengers inside, was engulfed in flames.

The officers rushed to car and pulled the occupants to safety. The driver was transported to a local trauma center with life-threatening injuries. The two passenger, a man and a woman, suffered non- life-threatening injuries.

The accident is under investigation.
