Police: 3 men shot in car on Route 50 in Prince George's County

Authorities said three men have been transported to the hospital following a shooting on Route 50 in Prince George's County.

The victims were shot while they were traveling in a gray Kia vehicle on eastbound Route 50 (John Hanson Highway) nearby Columbia Park Road at around 3 p.m. Thursday, according to Prince George's County police. Their injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

As least 13 bullet holes were seen on the exterior of the car and the driver's side front window was shattered. Shell casings were found as far as a hundred yards away from where the Kia stopped.

"Our detectives are on scene and we are actively working to establish a suspect and motive," said Prince George's County Police Officer Tyler Hunter. "This is a very busy highway. There may have been some people who may have seen something, who drove on and may have thought it was an accident or something else. If you could call our detectives, we would appreciate it. You can also remain anonymous with our Crime Solvers tip line at 1-866-411-TIPS."

Police said detectives believe that this was not a random shooting.

All lanes on eastbound Route 50 were shut down for several hours as police investigated the shooting. The Kia vehicle was towed away just after 7:30 p.m and the roadway opened up shortly afterwards at around 7:40 p.m.
