Police: 21 vehicles involved in crash on I-395 in Arlington County

Virginia State Police said 21 vehicles were involved in a chain-reaction crash on Interstate 395 in Arlington County Tuesday evening.

The multi-vehicle accident happened at around 6:25 p.m. on the northbound lanes of I-395.

According to police, it all began when a 57-year-old Alexandria man driving a 2002 Toyota Tundra suffered a medical emergency and lost control of his truck. The Tundra would bump into other vehicles causing vehicles to crash over a five-mile stretch. The truck would come to a stop at Exit 10C after it was boxed in by traffic.

The driver of the Toyota was transported to the hospital for his medical emergency and minor injuries suffered in the crash. Three others were also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The driver will not be charged for the crash, police said.

All lanes on I-395 were reopened to traffic by 8:55 p.m.
