Off-duty officer involved in accident that killed pedestrian

An investigation is underway in Charles County, Maryland after a pedestrian was hit and killed this morning.

FOX 5 has now confirmed an off-duty Charles County Sheriff's Officer was behind the wheel of the truck that hit the person.

State police say the officer was driving on Budds Creek Road in Mechanicsville when a car in front of him stopped to make a left hand turn.

The officer attempted to go around the car to the right and hit the pedestrian.

The pedestrian, who has not been identified at this time, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision.
