Northeast DC construction dumping site told to fix issues immediately or shut down in May

WASHINGTON - After months of investigating and demanding answers from local leaders, D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine has filed a lawsuit against a Northeast solid-waste facility ordering the site to shut its doors and pay a $50,000 fine.

FOX 5 was first to expose the issues with the Rodgers Brothers solid-waste facility in the residential neighborhood of Langdon Park back in November.

Neighbors and local activists demanded the city and its elected officials do something about the exorbitant amount of dust and foul smell produced by the site.

The company signed a settlement agreement with the city back in 2012 in which its owners agreed to comply with basic tenets.

As a result of a FOX 5 investigation, the District found Rodgers Brothers in non-compliance with the agreement. The city said it has provided the site repeated opportunities to correct the issues over the past five years.

The office of the attorney general has given its ultimatum: the facility needs to find an immediate remedy or shut down in May.
