Multi-car crash involving a boat kills one seriously injures another

One person was killed and another was seriously injured in a crash involving a pick-up truck towing a boat and a box truck in the southbound lanes I-395 to I-495 in Fairfax County.

According to Virginia State Police, troopers responded to a multi-car crash around 3:45 p.m., Saturday.

The pick-up truck was towing a boat and had pulled off onto the median area at the split of Westbound I-495 and I-95 South/I-495/I-395 North.

Two men were outside working to re-secure the boat on the trailer when a box truck drifted into the median area.

The box truck struck the boat and one of the male pedestrians. The other pedestrian was also struck in the impact of the crash.

Both victims were transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the pick-up truck was still inside his vehicle at the time of the crash and was not injured.

According to Virginia State Police, one of the victims, Leonard A. Schultz, 52, of Ashburn, Va died at the hospital and the second victim, Albert Schultz IV, 24, is being treated for life-threatening injuries

The driver of the box truck, Carlos Alberto Garcia, 42, of Woodbridge, Va., was not injured in the crash. Garcia has been initially charged with reckless driving.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.
