Firefighter dies responding to Laurel house fire
A 46-year-old firefighter has died after responding to a house fire in Laurel, MD Saturday night.
LAUREL, Md. - A Montgomery County firefighter has died responding to a house fire in Prince George's County Saturday night.
The fire was on the 15000 block of Bradford Drive in Laurel, Maryland Saturday evening.
The firefighter's name has not been released publicly pending notification of next of kin. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Chief Corey Smedley says the firefighter was 46 years old and a 22-year veteran of the department.
Smedley said this firefighter had an "emergency within the emergency" but declined to elaborate further on what that was.
Smedley says that what happened leading up to the emergency will be part of the investigation. Smedley said CPR was administered, and the firefighter was transported to White Oak Medical Center where he died.
His body was taken to the Medical Examiners office late Saturday night, escorted by several emergency response vehicles.
