Metro delays continued Wednesday morning following frustrating evening commute
WASHINGTON - Delays continued Wednesday morning along the Orange, Silver and Blue lines following a frustrating evening commute that left Metro riders waiting as long as 40 minutes for their trains.
Tuesday's delays were a result of defective rail fasteners that were spotted during inspections. Officials say the fasteners are important because they keep rails in place and prevent derailments. Delays from 20 to 40 minutes began in the afternoon Tuesday and extended into the evening commute.
At 5 a.m. Wednesday morning, Metro's Orange, Silver and Blue Line riders were delayed in both directions at the Smithsonian station due to speed restrictions. Orange Line riders between the Vienna and W Falls Church stations also experienced delays due to SafeTrack work. There were also issue along the Red Line that led to minor delays.
The delays lasted several hours and by Wednesday afternoon, all trains were running as scheduled.
