Metro Center reopens Tuesday following track problem

Metro Center station has reopened Tuesday following a track problem that closed it Monday night.

No official word was given, however, the gates of the station were opened around 5 a.m. Online, service status for all trains was listed as 'ON TIME.'

Firefighters responded to the station Monday night. Service on the Blue, Orange, Silver and Red lines was affected and trains bypassed the station. Shuttle bus service was requested for passengers.

Earlier in the day, rail service was suspended between the Rosslyn and Foggy Bottom stations. The delays during the morning rush hour commute caused significant delays for riders on the Blue, Orange and Silver lines after smoke was reported.

Metro said signs of electrical sparking, also known as arcing, caused the transit agency to repair multiple third-rail insulators that was causing the problem.
