Md. trooper struck while making traffic stop on I-95

JESSUP, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police say a trooper was hit while making a traffic stop on Interstate 95 in Jessup.

It happened about 3 p.m. Wednesday on the interstate near Route 175. Police say Trooper First Class Wing Tong stopped a Ford driven by 35-year-old Fabino De Aguiar of Silver Spring.

Authorities say Tong stopped his cruiser with its emergency lights activated behind De Aguiar's car and walked on the passenger side to the Ford.

Troopers say a Mercury driven by 65-year-old Maureen Walter of Poolesville moved from the road onto the shoulder, hitting the cruiser and the Ford.

Police say Tong was hit by the Ford and pushed over the guardrail.

Tong was flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore. De Aguiar and Walter were taken to Howard County General Hospital.
