Md. man attempts to break into former teacher's home

A Centreville man was arrested last weekend for attempting to break into the home of his former teacher.

Police say Daniel Richard Vandegrift, 20, was caught on video attempting to enter his former high school teacher's vehicles and residence around 3 a.m. on October 24.

According to deputies, one of the victims, Robert Taylor, reported that this was the second time in a week that Vandegrift had attempted to enter his vehicles and home. Taylor was able to identify the suspect because his wife had been one of Vandegrift's teachers.

Vandegrift was charged with Tampering with a Motor Vehicle, Attempted 1st Degree Burglary, Attempted 4th Degree Burglary and Attempted Rogue and Vagabond.

According to the sheriff's office, Vandegrift was initially held on a $100,000 bond. At a later bail review, bond was lowered to $15,000.
