Maryland Gov. Hogan calls for UMD adenovirus investigation

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan is calling for an investigation into the University of Maryland's response to an adenovirus outbreak that led to the death of a student.

Officials waited 18 days before notifying the school community about the outbreak.

In a letter to the Board of Regents on Thursday, the Governor put the outbreak that led to the death of Olivia Paregol in November 2018 and sickened dozens into the context of the circumstances surrounding the death of football player Jordan McNair.

"Mr. McNair's death rightfully prompted multiple investigations and brought to light numerous inadequacies in how the university dealt with a medical emergency," the governor said. "Unfortunately, I am deeply concerned that the University learned nothing from that troubling and tragic episode."

McNair collapsed during a football practice, and later died of heatstroke in June 2018.
