Man stabs himself in D.C. hours after Secret Service, police conduct welfare check

Secret Service agents, with the assistance of Metropolitan Police officers, conducted a welfare check at a Northeast Washington apartment complex Friday morning.

The Secret Service says that they received a call from a concerned citizen who requested the welfare check on a person staying in the 100 block of K Street, NE.

When they responded to the scene, the Secret Service says the person refused entry to their location.

Hours later, police determined the person in question could be in danger to himself and made entry into the location.

The Secret Service says the person, identified only as a "male subject," sustained a self-inflicted knife wound and was transported to a local hospital. The man's condition is unknown.
