Man killed in yet another DC daytime shooting

A 29-year-old man was shot and killed Thursday afternoon inside a Southeast D.C. apartment building, according to police. According to his family, he was a maintenance man who was in the neighborhood to pick up his sons from school.

Demetrius Stevenson is the latest victim to be murdered in the 2700 block of Langston Place. It is a location in the city D.C. police homicide units does not need directions to.

Since April of 2013, Adam Barker, Antonio McCallister, Marcus Alston, Simwone Milstead, Latroia Smith, Darius Cannon and Stevenson have all lost their lives on this block.

Three of the murders remain unsolved.

"It's disgusting," said Stevenson's mother, Angela Holmes. "They took a good boy from me. They took my son and it's going to be handled."

She spoke with FOX 5 outside the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch where she tried to help detectives on who may have wanted to kill her son.

"They have a lot of leads and they are not telling," said Holmes. "They just wanted to know little things like why he was around there and reasons for being there."

Just before 2 p.m. Thursday, D.C. police found Stevenson on a third-floor landing inside 2734 Langston Place where a police report says he was shot multiple times in the chest.

At the scene, police said nothing about a motive or suspects and Stevenson's mother did not have much more than that. But she is confident that her son's case will be solved soon.

"They got very good leads and the forensics are going to tell it all," said Holmes. "They are trying to find the baby's mother."

Stevenson is the 50th person to be murdered in the city so far this year and the latest in a string of daytime killings. There were two fewer homicides at this time last year.
